People first, AI on the side
Our students are lonelier than ever1 and many want more than another chatbot2.
When AI is the only partner on offer, students quietly opt out. In Stanford's review of AI tutoring, 40% to 47% of students never used the AI platform at all3, and a Cornell Spanish lecturer summed up her class's verdict on an AI speaking partner: “some of my students outright rejected [it] — they prefer human conversations”4.
Pangea Chat is the only learning platform that offers students the choice of completing their assignments with a bot or with each other.

Engaging homework with real impact
Many teachers are having trouble assigning homework at all5,6. AI has made it easy to turn in homework that took no thought.
Pangea Chat offers students AI help inside the conversation, then measures what they learn from every interaction: who practiced, where they struggled, and how much of the work was their own. Playful challenges reward independent thought, so grades reflect real learning.

Built on science, proven in classrooms
Pangea Chat is not another AI-age chatbot.
Our approach has been in quiet research and development since 2017, funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, grounded in theories of motivation and second language acquisition, and honed through successive iterations of learner and classroom testing.
Classroom research by Dr. Tim Ashe (University of Alabama at Birmingham) and Dr. Linh Phung is forthcoming in High Impact Practices in Language and Culture Education7 (Routledge, 2026). Five independent university studies launch this fall, three funded by World Languages 360.
“Pangea Chat's AI-driven multimodality chat messenger app allows my students to blend text, voice, visuals, and interactive feedback. My students have not only sharpened their communication skills through authentic, real-world practice but also have improved their engagement and motivation as they practice Spanish. The app's platform has assisted me in transforming passive tasks into dynamic, rewarding experiences that spark creativity and confidence.”
Dr. Tim Ashe, Jr.
University of Alabama at Birmingham
“Since starting Pangea Chat, I have seen the students, especially the novice ones, become more comfortable with their language skills. They have begun asking questions like 'Did I spell this correctly? The bot said that I did not!' and 'Wait! Why is it telling me to add this word here?' Pangea Chat has helped these students to get fast feedback, and then I can double check and talk to them about the corrections that they made.”
Jan Fox
World Language Department Chair & Spanish Teacher, Serra Catholic High School
“Students are used to expressing themselves easily in their native language, but become frustrated when they can’t say what they want in another language. Pangea Chat helps them express themselves in an engaging way that goes beyond traditional activities focused on memorizing lots of vocabulary and tricky grammar structures.”
Cheryl Johnson
Instructional Technologist, Denison University
“I’m focusing more on technology because I see students always use their phones in class to translate or find other help.”
Clara Di Gennaro
Spanish Professor, Edward Waters University
